Before studying medicine, he worked as a Registered Nurse at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney across a range of clinical areas for several years.

He also worked in workers’ compensation, life insurance and disability claims. Together with his experience as a General Practitioner and Medical Officer in the Royal Australian Navy Reserve, this has given him insight into occupational medicine, workplace health and the challenges faced by professionals, tradespeople and shift workers in physically demanding and high-pressure occupations.

Outside medicine, Richard keeps active and has completed half and full marathons, HYROX events, obstacle course races and the Everest Base Camp trek. He lives with his wife and two young boys, and their dog.
