ADHD occupational therapist.
An occupational therapist adapts tasks and spaces so mornings, homework and home life work better. ADHDme lists one paediatric OT, in Brisbane.
Occupational therapy in the network
In clinic, at home, at school and by telehealth.
What an OT does for ADHD
For children, OT uses play to build the skills home and school ask for. It covers sensory needs, routines that hold up on a bad morning, and reports for school, the NDIS or a functional capacity assessment. Some sessions happen in the clinic and some at home or school, where the difficulty shows up.
For adults, OT covers the systems of daily life, from a morning routine to how a workspace is set up, and workplace adjustments. The network’s OT works with children, and the network is looking for an OT who works with adults.
OT, psychology or coaching
A psychologist works on thoughts, feelings and behaviour, and can assess and diagnose. A coach works on executive function and accountability, and coaching is not a registered health profession. An occupational therapist is AHPRA-registered and works on function: the task, the environment and the skill. Success is measured by whether your day goes better.
How it is funded
The practice quotes its fee when you book. A Mental Health Treatment Plan does not cover occupational therapy. The NDIS covers it for participants with OT in their plan, private health extras often do, and a GP’s chronic condition management plan gives a partial Medicare rebate on up to five allied health sessions a year, shared across disciplines.
In the network
